You are bidding on an antique showpiece Single Cylinder Rotary Printing Press (1847-1900)
Invented by Richard March Hoe in 1843, the rotary printing press quickly became the main printing machine once it was patented and brought to market in 1847.
Hoe's idea to use a spinning cylinder instead of the old flatbed printing press greatly increased printing speed, and the cylinder style is still in use today.
Paper can either be fed into the machine in pre-cut sheets, or by being unwound from a continuous roll through the press to be printed.
The images of the specific color this printing press would apply were etched into a plate that would spin on one the cylinders. A worker would have to reapply ink to the plate and hand crank the press to apply the ink to the paper.  These presses were eventually automated with steam to cut down in man labor.
